Keep your eye out for the next issue of Excelencia, Ivy’s artwork will be featured. Throughout Term 2 and 3 students completed in depth case studies on two artists, Noŋgirrŋa Marawili and Peter Sharp.

Students were then tasked with producing an abstract sculpture from materials sourced from the local area and school grounds. Students then used their sculpture to create a series of drawings in different media including charcoal, pastel and pen, exploring an abstract and patterned representation of place.

Ivy used her developmental drawings to inspire her mixed media abstract artwork using watercolour and overlaid her painting with intricate mark making. Both her sculpture and artworks are cohesive, well composed and have a calming effect on the viewer.

Ivy’s reflection on her work was that her artwork represents that everything can be perceived in different ways. The shapes and shadows that her sculpture created can be depicted differently for everyone, just like her artwork.

Ivy reports that the process of going over the paintwork with a fine line pen was very intricate and time consuming. She changed her views and plans for what she wanted the final piece to look like multiple times throughout the process, but likes that it was very relaxed and calm, just like the shadows her art is based on.

Ivy commented that “creating this artwork was calming and I enjoyed the environment of drawing outside in nature. My teacher and classmates supported me and I'm thankful for the materials and support”
