The Science unit we were discovering throughout last term, was about food and fibre, and how they are produced. Students became scientists on Friday of Week 8.
They had to create an irrigation system that transported at least 400mls of water from a tank, into two ‘garden beds’.

The prototypes were taken outside and readied for the first test. Many sprung a leak and some didn’t hold the required 400mls of water. However, water and gravity have taken on a new meaning, with a deeper understanding about the science behind how they work.
Finally, students came back to the classroom to evaluate their designs. This process involved identifying the strengths of the first design, reflecting on the problems that emerged and then they were redesigned.
There were so many great ideas, but the best thing was seeing how engaged and motivated every student was throughout the whole lesson.

In Term 4, students will develop their understanding of energy as a resource that can be generated and transferred. This will include heat, electricity and induction.
